Love, power and a sound mind

Tomorrow we hope to discuss various statements and commands we read in the Bible regarding our hearts and minds to get an idea of what God's provisions and expectations are for us.

While God's comfort and peace are real even in the most fearful trials, He also instructs us to take every thought captive (2 Cor 10:5), test all things and hold to the good (1 Thess 5:21), and tells us "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Tim 1:7)

We often hear children exclaim, "I can't do it!" when we know otherwise.

Based on our wisdom and experience, we can direct children to things they are able to do, and we expect them to trust our words are true and make the effort to obey. Sometimes we wisely recognize that there are benefits to allowing them to be challenged in difficult or new situations, because they gain needed skills and character qualities. We recognize that it would not be wise for us to bail them out of these opportunities.

We will be looking at some spiritual parallels to these matters.
