About Keeping Home

Welcome.  Here you will find notes which roughly sum up (or occasionally embellish) things discussed at our weekly ladies' meeting in Ferguson, Missouri, from the years 2010-2013.  Posts after 2013 are continued thoughts along the same purpose as the meetings, namely…

That they may teach the young women
to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good,
obedient to their own husbands,
that the word of God be not blasphemed.
 Titus 2:4-5

The goal is to keep the scriptures in the forefront, while seeking to encourage “things which become sound doctrine”, that is, not the teaching of doctrine, but the character and actions and outworkings which are fitting for those with sound doctrine.  It is not a fine line; all scripture is profitable.  However, the purpose was to encourage living doctrine out, not conducting a ladies’ church service, with inspiring sermons delivered by effective women communicators on a variety of Bible themes.

The world's message to women is so contrary to God's Word…and as Christians, we are not immune to its influence.  That’s why we are told in the Bible:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that
good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
 Romans 12:2

As disciples of Jesus Christ, it's vital that we get our job descriptions, methods and priorities from God's Word!

Discipleship for Christian women is partly and primarily expressed through our roles as women.  Though in Christ, there is no male or female (Gal 3:28), if we are women (in whatever state, married or not), it is within our roles as women that we demonstrate our dedication to Christ.

Further, our responsibilities in these roles do not hinder us from our devotion to Christ, but they are a catalyst for God’s work in our lives.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also,
who trusted in God,
adorned themselves...
1 Peter 3:6

Following the Lord and living by his Word is a powerful testimony to those around us.  But it is a battle…against the philosophies of this world and even against our own feelings and assumptions.  But the Lord’s plans for us are good and by following them, we can enjoy his wonderful promises…

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the LORD,
she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30
