A watermark

It is not merely relevant for us as christian women to seek to understand the Bible’s teaching considering our roles as women (though this should be our sincere pursuit as children of God, seeking to please our Father in all things).

The fact is, all christians will find increasing opposition to the Bible’s teaching— including, and sometimes especially, God’s plan for women (and men!).  The more we seek to put it into practice, the more opposition!

“Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.”― Jim Elliot

From the beginning to the end of the Bible, gender roles are taught or referenced.  It is part of the weave of Scripture.

So, our explaining away certain parts of the Bible, or aspects of its teaching, not only can cause us to miss out on understanding and living out important aspects of God’s plan:  it could also cause us to lose or hamper valuable opportunities to be a witness to the world for the truth and authority of God’s Word.

In fact, this is exactly what the attempt to mysticize or merge the plain reading of Genesis 1 (creation in six days) with the so-called facts of billions of years of evolution has accomplished — most evolutionists see right through this as a way of “rescuing” the Bible.

We read recently that most liberal and agnostic Hebrew scholars (unbelievers) freely admit the original Hebrew in Genesis 1 is speaking of the creation accomplished in six normal days.  Oh yes!  But wait— they don’t believe the Bible’s account anyway.  They count it all as based on myths.  You see, the attempt to fit billions of years of evolution in those six days is one taken up by those seeking to rescue the so-called unscientific explanation in Genesis.

But I digress…

In other words, let’s not explain away God’s unique plan for women.  Instead, let’s consider and uphold it as a a watermark of his perfect wisdom…the wisdom that, in fact, is foolishness to the world.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;

and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

 For ye see your calling, brethren,

how that not many wise men after the flesh,

not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;

and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world,

and things which are despised,

hath God chosen,

yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

That no flesh should glory in his presence.

1 Corinthians 1:25-29
